Lucy was off from school last week and we mostly filled our days with play dates and hanging out at home and in the park.
One thing that we did that was more unusual was drive about an hour north to Storm King Cultural Art Center on the day they opened for the season and run around outside surrounded by huge sculptures. Storm King is an outdoor art center/sculpture park. Brian, Lucy, Lucy's friend, and I all went together for a fun family day.
There was a tram that we hopped on when the kids got tired and picnic tables where we ate the lunch that we brought. It was very moving and sometimes breathtaking to see this monumental pieces of art from so many angles. It was also a real treat to watch Lucy and her friend be a part of the landscape along with the grass, the water, the trees and these giant works of art.
This wall goes down into the pond that you see here and comes back out the other side:

We had a really amazing time. Check out the video on the Storm King Website for more information
If you know of any other outdoor art centers, please leave us a comment and let us know! We have heard that DeCordova is another good one!

Believe it or not, right in the heart of the Midwest sits a breathtaking sculpture park in Des Moines, Iowa. The Pappajohn Sculpture Park is built directly within a major crossroads of the urban grid, making it unlike any other sculpture garden in the United States. You can see more information at the links below. Des Moines loves visitors and we have a loyal following of LBB groupies. :)

Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, MI has an outdoor sculpture park. Also the location of a great outdoor amphitheater which would be an awesome place for a concert!

Pepsico corporation office park across street from Suny Purchase in Westchester, NY. Exit 27 off Merritt State Parkway North just after the Hutch ends and forks to 684 and the Merritt. Fabulous! Open to the public. Lots of famous artist sculptures. Beautiful grounds.
