Laurie lives in New York City knows a lot of fun places!
Come visit us! It’s a beautiful warm sunny day and playgrounds need to be
played in! Manhattan’s Central Park has a ton of them. Here are a few fun
places to check out:
The Adventure
Playground looks like a maze and can be found on the West Side at 67th
Street. A big pyramid sits right in the middle right next to a small water
basin! This place is a real adventure!
The Abraham and
Joseph Spector Playground on the West Side at 86th Street is one
of the largest playgrounds in the park with water sprinklers and a sandbox
boasting tons of fun!
Howdy partner! The Wild
West Playground on the West Side and 93rd Street looks and feels
like an old frontier town.
On the West Side and 100th Street, the Tarr Family Playground includes a large
conical climber with a tunnel and slides, a modern net climber, a variety of
swings for all ages, a wooden tree house, and a concrete maze. This place is
lots of fun!
The famous Carousel
located Mid-Park at 64th Street is one of the city’s favorite summer spots!
Saddle-up everyone!
Mid-park between 79th and 80th
Streets, Turtle Pond is man-made
filled with New York City drinking water. However, you wouldn’t want to drink
this water, since it’s filled with five kinds of turtles who live in the Pond
year round! Please leave your turtles at home!
Victorian Gardens
Amusement Park on the East Side between 62nd and 63rd
Streets has been New York City’s best-kept secret since it opened its gates
back in 2003. As the summer operation of Wollman Rink, this whimsical family
amusement park features twelve handcrafted rides that are sure to delight all
guests. Various games assure that all victors go home with a prize. Live
interactive shows keep kids and parents laughing, hula hooping, dancing and
singing. Classic concessions such as cotton candy, caramel corn, and ice cream
are munchies that keep the entire family fulfilled. For information on hours
and admission fees call 212-982-2229!
The East 72nd
St. Playground at East 72nd Street has numerous steps and seats that
define the play space and provide a variety of levels and surfaces to climb and
explore!
On the East Side at 74th Street just north of Conservatory
Water, the Alice in Wonderland sculpture
is a favorite among children, who love to climb atop it and explore its varied
textures and hiding spaces.
On the East Side and 85th Street The Ancient Playground is full of
pyramid climbers and tunnels making this the perfect place for exploration! The
bridges and mini waterfall make this the place to be!
Play with the hippos at the Safari Playground at the West Side and 91st Street! This
playground features naturalistic hippopotamus sculptures by the artist Bob
Cassily, set in a "river" of blue safety surfacing. A canoe and
water-spray features further animate this safari-inspired scene!
The Robert Bendheim
Playground on the East Side and 100th Street is a
"playground for all children." This play space was designed to be
accessible to children with and without disabilities.
Further up on the East Side and 108th Street, the
Bernard Family Playground is small
in size and big on views. Located
in one of the most beautiful settings in the Park – across from the Harlem Meer
– the playground is also near the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, which
offers additional recreational opportunities. Fishing poles are available for
children and adults to borrow for catch-and-release fishing in the Meer.
